These powerful, brooding pen and ink drawings were prepared by Damian Petrescu for a Romanian edition of the works of Edgar Allan Poe, published by Editura Pentru, Bucharest, 1969. They are offered singly or as a pair, with a copy of the book in which they appear as illustrations, including a dedication by the artist dated November 1975. At the time Petrescu did these drawings, he probably was in his early thirties. Additional information on this artist is unavailable. Provenance: Acquired from the artist in Bucharest, 1975.
