Nothing is really known about this artist except for the following story, One day in the late 1950s a Frenchman walked into my father's furniture store in New York with a bundle of canvases under his arm. He was broke, had just arrived by boat in the United States, and wanted to barter some of his paintings to furnish his apartment. My father chose this colorful impressionist scene of Artists' Square in Monmartre and in return gave the young artist a bed. -M.H. The painting is cheerful and bright and will make a happy addition to any home or collection. It is offered in a simple natural wood frame. Provenance: from the artist to the owner's father in exchange for a bed and then to the present owner by descent.
